This
is the support page for Oceans Now. Most
application problems can be solved by either restarting the device
or reloading the application from the app store. If neither of these resolves your problem,
and it is not addressed in this FAQ, then please email support
I downloaded the app and the app store says it's installed, but I can't find the icon.
This is not an app problem, and sometimes happens with certain devices. Power down your device and then power it back up. The app icon should now be visible.
Why does the app ask for my location?
The map or globe will automatically center on your location if you allow access, to show content that is geospatially relevant to you. Otherwise the display centers on Boston.
Can I get more information about the icons shown on the map?
Touch the icon at the location of interest and a page will open giving more detail.
How often is the information updated?
Each time the app is opened, it will retrieve the latest information for any data source selected. Sources update their data at different intervals, ranging from a few minutes to daily.
Why did you take away the globe in the latest iOS release?
While the globe looked cool, the technology behind it is based on OpenGL which has been deprecated by Apple and could be removed from iOS without notice, which would break the app. We now use a variety of displays most appropriate to the content being displayed, including a map for some content, and which display better on a small screen.
